Dear Senator Galvano
January 31, 2013
Senator Bill Galvano
1023 Manatee Avenue West
Suite 201
Bradenton, FL 34205
Dear Senator Galvano:
It was nice to
see you at the Manatee County Bar Association lunch yesterday.
I appreciated your remarks and updates. It was also good to
have a chance to discuss homelessness with you.
As I mentioned,
I continue to be associated with the Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness.
We are the lead agency for Manatee and Sarasota counties. We work closely with
the Community Coalition on Homelessness (now Turning Points) and other agencies
in the Continuum of Care.
We both know
first hand the important work being done by the Partnership and Coalition to
assist our neediest citizens and improve the quality of life for everyone.
For years the Partnership existed with negligible funding by
the State of Florida. Unfortunately, last year even that was cut.
With this letter I
enclose the legislative agenda for 2013 as stated by the Florida Coalition for
the Homeless. The main takeaway is that moderate state funding of our local
coalitions allows us to keep our doors open, serve the people, and bring
substantial additional funding into our community.
You and I both
know the devastating impact of our current economic crisis. As you work on your
priorities for the 2013 session, I hope that you will champion the issue of
homelessness, and allow our local coalitions to enact long-term solutions.
Best Wishes,
Adam Tebrugge
